A chess piece set inspired by folding paper
Project Overview
Inspired by the art of origami, this chess set reimagines traditional chess pieces through geometric forms, sharp angles, and folded surfaces. Each piece translates the visual language of paper folding into a sculptural, three-dimensional object while maintaining its recognizable identity and function. The design explores the balance between simplicity, aesthetics, and usability, creating a cohesive and contemporary interpretation of the classic game.

The Chess Pieces
From Pawn to King, each chess piece was designed with a progressive increase in layers, creating a visual hierarchy throughout the set. Inspired by traditional chess pieces, each form incorporates recognizable details while reinterpreting them through the geometric folds and layered structure of origami.

The Chess Board
The chessboard was intentionally kept minimal to allow the sculptural chess pieces to take center stage. Subtle lines inspired by the geometric forms of the pieces were incorporated into the board, creating visual continuity and a cohesive design throughout the set.
The playing surface rests on a mirrored base, creating the illusion of a floating chessboard while adding a sense of depth and visual intrigue to the design.

The Chess Sets
Two distinct visual identities were developed for the chess set. The first embraces the traditional black-and-white color palette of chess, while the second explores a more playful and whimsical approach, bringing a fresh perspective to the classic game.
